ALFRED NOBEL ESTABLISHED NOBEL PEACE PRIZES FOR THE GREATEST BENEFIT OF MANKIND : IT’S NOMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

Quaium Chowdhury : Since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been honoring men and women from all places of the world for outstanding achievements in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology, Medicine, Literature. and for Work in Peace. The Foundations for the Prize were laid in 1895, When Mr. Alfred Nobel, — the Founder of — Nobel Peace Prize Foundation, wrote his Last Will, leaving much of his Wealth to the establishment of his Nobel Prize.
Each year, thousands of members of Academics, University Professors , Scientists, previous Nobel Laureates , Members of Parliamentary Assemblies and others are asked to submit candidates for the Nobel Prizes for the coming years including members of National Governments , Court of Arbitration and of the International Court of Justice at The Hague and so on. Organizations can be nominated as well as individuals.
The goal of the Nobel Peace Prize is to reward people who have made major contributions toward bringing Peace to the World– in the year before the Nomination. A brief description of the process involved in selecting the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates is noted below:
**September– The Nobel Committee sends out invitation letters to individuals individuals qualified to nominate– members of National Assemblies, Governments, and International Courts of Law, University Chancellors , Professors of Social Science, History, Philosophy, Law and Theology; Leaders of Peace Leaders Institutes and Institutes of Foreign Affaires , Board Members of organizations that have received the Nobel Peace Prize; Present and Past Members & Advisers of the Norwegian Nobel Committee & Nobel Institute. ** February — Deadline for submission of Nominations. The Nobel Community make its assessment on Nominations that must be postmarked no later February 1 each year. In recent years, the Committee has received close to 200 different Nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. ** February-March — The Nobel Committee assesses the candidates’ works and contributions toward peace and with respect to their own fields. ** October– At the beginning of October the Nobel Committee chooses the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates through — a majority vote of the Nobel Committee. The names of Nobel of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates are then announced. ** December– The Nobel Peace Prize Award Ceremony takes place on December 10 — in Olso, Norway, Where Nobel Laureates receive their– Nobel Peace Prize, — which consists of– Nobel Medal and Diploma, and a document confirming the Prize amount — 10 Million Swedish Crowns ( More than $1.4 million US dollars). Popular Peace Prize Winners includes — Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Barak Obama, Yaseer Arafat, Nelson Mandela, Dr. Mohammed Eunus, Rabindranath Tagore, Bertrand Russel, Malala Yousafzani. The first Nobel Peace Prize was shared– between Jean Henri Dunant of Switzerland for his role in– creating the International Committee of the Red Cross and Frederic Passy of France — who was the Founder of the French Peace Society.
Since 1901, ** 129 people have been honored with the Nobel Peace Prize — “those who have done the best or the most work– for fraternity between Nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies, and for– holding and promotion of Peace Congresses” — as per Alfred Nobel’s concept. The Norwegian Nobel Committee is made up of five members– appointed by the Norwegian Parliament. *** Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) established the Nobel Peace Prize — “For the Greatest Benefit of Mankind “.
