QUEENS MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER FOR DEADLY STABBING OF FLUSHING RESIDENT

Usanewsonline.com desk: Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that Yang Zhang, 35, has been charged with  murder, burglary and other crimes in the stabbing death of a 41-year-old man that took place in the early morning  hours of Sunday, May 22, 2022.

District Attorney Katz said, “This brutal act of violence is compounded by the seemingly random nature  of the attack. As alleged, this defendant entered the home of the victim without permission in the middle of the  night and violently stabbed him to death. Thankfully, the victim’s wife escaped but must now cope with the  tragedy of losing her loved one. The defendant now faces justice in our Courts for his alleged crimes.”

Zhang, of 147th Street, Flushing, Queens, was arraigned last night before Queens Criminal Court Judge  Anthony Battisti on a five-count complaint charging him with murder in the second degree, burglary in the first  degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Judge Battisti ordered the defendant to return to  Court on May 26, 2022. If convicted, Zhang faces 25 years-to-life in prison.

According to the charges, at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022, the defendant allegedly  entered the apartment of the victim, Yat Ming Wong, and after a brief verbal altercation, used a sharp object to  repeatedly stab Mr. Wong multiple times in the legs, neck, head, and arms.

The investigation was conducted by Detective Shaquan Harvin of the Queens Homicide Squad and  Detective Carl Caputo of the 109th Police Precinct.

Assistant District Attorney Anthony Vittiglio of the District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau is prosecuting  the case under the supervision of Assistant District Attorneys Peter McCormack III and John W. Kosinski, Senior  Deputy Bureau Chiefs, and Karen Ross, Deputy Bureau Chief, and under the overall supervision of Executive  Assistant District Attorney for Major Crimes Daniel A. Saunders.

Criminal complaints and indictments are accusations. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven   guilty.
