Bangladesh Ambassador Presents copies of Letters of Credence to the Mexican Chief of Protocol
USA NEWS: Akramul Qader, Ambassador-designate of Bangladesh to Mexico with residence in Washington DC, presented the copies of the Letters of Credence to Ambassador Jorge Castro Valle, Chief of Protocol of the Mexican Foreign Ministry on 6 December. Held at the Moon Palace, Cancun where the 16th meeting of the UNFCCC is taking place, the ceremony was also attended by Armando Alvarez Reina,Director General for Asia Pacific of the Ministry. On the Bangladesh side, Muhamamd Nazmul Hoque, First Secretary and Nirupam Deb Nath, Second Secretary were in attendance.
After presenting the copies of the Letters of Credence, both sides discussed issues of mutual interest and ways to further bilateral relations between the two friendly countries. During the meeting, Mexican side informed that a business delegation will visit India soon, and they would like the delegation tag Bangladesh during their Asia tour. Recognizing potentials in exploring new areas of cooperation particularly in the field of trade, Bangladesh Ambassador expressed his intention to work to further strengthen the relationship both in depth and dimension.
Congratulating the Ambassador for becoming functional as Bangladesh Envoy to Mexico, the Chief of Protocol welcomed him to Cancun which has received heightened media attention globally for the on-going UN Climate Conference(COP-16). Ambassador Qader, who is also a member of the Bangladesh delegation for the Conference, appreciated the efforts of the Mexican Government in organizing such a major event successfully. While touching on the importance Bangladesh attaches on the climate issue, Ambassador Qader informed that Bangladesh delegation is composed of more than 100 members, drawn from both public and private sectors which is being led by Dr. Hasan Mahmud,MP, State Minister, Government of Bangladesh. He added that Bangladesh, one of the most vulnerable countries, has been playing a constructive and lead role among the LDCs in global climate discourse under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. As regards expectation of the Bangladesh from the COP-16, Ambassador Qader said that even the meeting fails to reach to any legally-binding agreement for emission cuts, he would be personally happy to see concrete commitments are made by the Parties in the fields of technology transfer, adaptation, climate financing and mitigation.
