“Residents throughout District 31 have had to deal with torn and tattered streets for decades as are roads are constantly being ripped up by commercial trucks coming and go to JFK Airport, the JFK Industrial Business Zone and waste transfer stations,” said Council Member Donovan Richards. “Our office has been working with the entire team at DOT for years now, putting our roads back together piece by piece, but now we’re taking a big step toward having a fully-paved community. I’d like to thank Speaker Johnson and DOT Commissioner Trottenberg and DOT Queens Borough Commissioner Garcia for their dedication to helping our neighborhoods reach that goal.”

“All New Yorkers want safer streets – those without potholes or other dangers that damage cars and bicycles,” said City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. “That’s especially true in southeast Queens where street repaving is sorely needed. I’m proud to support Council Member Richards in his effort to get more streets in District 31 repaved.”

“We thank the Speaker and Council Member for the additional funding that allows us to go above and beyond for residents in Council District 31,” said Nicole Garcia, NYC DOT Queens Borough Commissioner. “This investment brings major corridors such as Francis Lewis Boulevard and Beach Channel Drive into a state of good repair while also creating smoother rides on neighborhood streets in Arverne and Laurelton.” Press Release.
