Ambassador Akramul Qader met Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee a senior

UsaNewsOnline.com :Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Akramul Qader met the influential Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who is currently Senior Member on the House Homeland Security and Judiciary Committee at the Capitol Hill on Thursday, 8 May.

Bangladesh Ambassador briefed her that the 10^thParliamentary Elections held on 5 January 2014 had a crucial ideological underpinning reminiscent of Bangladesh’s 1971 War of Liberation; the elections marked the triumph of democratic, secular and progressive values and social justice and equity as enunciated by the country’s original constitution of 1972.

Regarding the worker’s rights and safety in RMG sector in Bangladesh Ambassador Qader said that Bangladesh has been steadily implementing the commitments made and suggestions elaborated by all partners e.g. EU, USA and other development partners. He also said that by now, it is widely acknowledged that a significant progress has already been achieved in a number of areas. It also manifests a changing approach and mindset in governing affairs in the RMG sector in Bangladesh. Yet, it remains a continuous process. The Government and the people in Bangladesh are committed to sustain the changes to make RMG sector a clean, dignified and productive sector and thus offering a win-win proposition for all.

Bangladesh Ambassador handed over a brief notes on the Parliamentary elections and worker’s safety and worker’s rights in RMG sector in Bangladesh to the Congresswomen for her perusal.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee praised Bangladesh for its’ remarkable economic growth and social progress over the years. She deeply appreciated Ambassador Qader for his hard work and brilliant contribution to strengthen Bangladesh–US relations in all spheres. Congresswoman Sheila also thanked the Ambassador for his persistent efforts of meeting the Congressmen and Senators to brief on Bangladesh regularly.
