Bangladesh’s Attainment Of LDC Graduation Criteria Celebrated With Festivity In South Korea

UsaNewsOnline.Com Desk : The Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul arranged a detailed programme to celebrate Bangladesh’s attainment of required criteria for Least Developed Country (LDC) graduation, as was officially announced by the United Nations Committee for Development recently. The programme included a week-long consular service, film festival, business seminar and musical performance. The Embassy rendered consular services from 19-23 March. Besides, a new Bangladeshi film was screened every evening on the same period.

A business seminar was organized on 22 March 2018 with the participation of Bangladeshi expatriate businessmen, professionals as well as representatives of prominent Korean business houses. At the outset, the officers of the Embassy read out the messages from the Honorable President and the Honorable Prime Minister. In her welcome remarks, the Ambassador thanked the guests for participating in the celebration. Thereafter, she highlighted on the background of Bangladesh’s economic success story through a power point presentation. She then pointed out different aspects of the process of graduation from LDC including the opportunities and challenges. She also encouraged the expatriate Bangladeshis for their active involvement and contribution to the economy of Bangladesh.

Then the Counsellor (Commercial) of the Embassy gave a presentation on promotion of trade and investment with South Korea. The First Secretary (Labor) appreciated the immense contribution of Bangladeshi workers in South Korea to the economy of Bangladesh as well as the Republic of Korea and encouraged to send money through legal channels.

Thereafter, expatriate Bangladeshis expressed their firm confidence on the economy of Bangladesh and added their valuable suggestions to enhance trade and investment relations with Korea. The Korean business people also inquired about the incentives in doing business with Bangladesh. The Ambassador and Embassy officers answered all their queries. After the discussion session, a celebratory cake was cut and traditional Baul songs were performed to make the occasion more colourful and festive.
