BOROUGH PRESIDENT KATZ TO HOST VETERANS DAY OBSERVANCE CEREMONY November 7 at Queens Borough Hall

USANEWSONLINE.COM DESK, QUEENS, NY – Borough President Melinda Katz will host her annual Veterans Day Observance Ceremony on Thursday, November 7^th at 11:00 AM inside the Helen Marshall Cultural Center at Queens Borough Hall. More veterans call Queens home than any other borough, and the ceremony will salute the more than 58,000 borough residents who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces.

“Queens is endlessly grateful to the tens of thousands of women and men of this borough who have displayed unimaginable courage, selflessness and sacrifice in donning our nation’s uniform. The debt we owe our heroes and their families can never be properly repaid,” said Borough President KATZ. “Join us at Borough Hall as we humbly pay tribute to those who have bravely answered the call to service in defense of our nation.”

Three distinguished veterans of Queens will receive Citations of Honor during the event:

• Sergeant First Class Loretta Z. Weiss, United States Army
  • World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War
• Sergeant James W. Sessoms, Jr., United States Marine Corps
  • Vietnam War
• Staff Sergeant Raymond Ramos, New York Army National Guard
  • Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom

The free, indoor ceremony on November 7^th will also feature keynote remarks by Veterans Benefits Advisor Joaquin B. Gonzalez of the New York State Division of Veterans Services, who will discuss the challenges faced by veterans in the 21^st century. An indoor reception at Borough Hall will follow the ceremony.
