UsaNewsOnline.Com, Pennsylvania : The ASAAL Pennsylvania Chapter gathered at Philadelphia to endorse Dr. Nina Ahmad for Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania.
As most of you know, Dr. Nina Ahmad, was once an adviser on President Obama’s Asian Pacific Islander issues and then served as the deputy Mayor of Philadelphia and previously thought to run for Congress from Pennsylvania Congressional District 1. And many of our community newspapers published such announcements previously.

Though Dr. Nina Ahmad is a life member of ASAAL and an adviser to the ASAAL National Council, ASAAL chose not to endorse her immediately after her original announcement. We have been in contact with her campaign and finally had ASAAL endorsed her.

In absence of ASAAL Pennsylvania President Kazi Motiur Rahman who is visiting Bangladesh, Executive Vice President Shah M. Golamkader, who is also known as Shah Farid presided the endorsement meeting. At this meeting Dr. Nina Ahmad explained the current status of her campaign. And decided that she will not be running for Congress rather she will be seeking the nomination for the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Pennsylvania!

On Saturday after a long discussion and question and answer session she announced that she will be running for the Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania. Dr. Nina Ahmad stated, “Harrisburg has been male-dominated for too long, and its culture won’t change without new voices, I will partner with Governor Wolf to help stamp out sexism and sexual harassment that holds us back.” She then added, “I have been involved in progressive politics for a long time in the USA but was never ever so excited for a campaign like this one. I’m very thankful to ASAAL and National President Maf Uddin whose leadership has brought us all here together. With ASAAL’s dedicated volunteers we can win this election, together!”

And at the same meeting after everyone spoke ASAAL National President Maf Misbah Uddin announced that, “it is our distinct honor and high privilege to endorse one of our own the most qualified, the highest experienced Dr. Nina Ahmad for the office of Lieutenant Governor of the State of Pennsylvania”, “we all know Pennsylvania is big but our Candidate has what it takes to win, and ASAAL Pennsylvania is ready to volunteer for her campaign, we are determined, we are dedicated, and we are strong. ASAAL is here to win”, he added.

ASAAL National Secretary Karim Chowdhury said, “we know to win any election is not easy but with ASAAL’s hard work we know how to win an election. Our Get Out And Vote Campaign is one of the best and we will do that until May 15, the Election Day to win.”
ASAAL Pennsylvania presiding president stated that, “For Dr. Nina Ahmad, we are all one, we have no party affiliation, we are all Bangladeshi. This is an opportunity for South Asians especially for Bangladeshis in Pennsylvania and with our hard work, we can win this election!”

The meeting was also joined by ASAAL Corresponding Secretary Jed Matalon, ASAAL New Jersey Chapter President Farook Hossain, Board of Trustee Abdur Rafiq, Women’s Co-Chair Roushan Uddin, ASAAL Bronx Chapter President Tahmeedul Haque, Vice Presidents Salah Uddin and Ala Uddin, ASAAL Manhattan Chapter Vice President Ahmed Ali, ASAAL Queens Chapter Organizing Director Shah Ahmed, Vice Presidents Md. Azizur Rahman and Md. Zohirul Haq. ASAAL Pennsylvania Secretary Mohammed Shahidul Islam was the Master of ceremony.
