Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury highlighted Bangladesh’s endeavors towards gender equality and women’s empowerment under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina at the ECOSOC

Sharke Chaman Khan: State Minister for Women and Children Affairs, Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury highlighted Bangladesh’s endeavors towards gender equality and women’s empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a meeting at the ECOSOC. She delivered a statement on behalf of Bangladesh while she attended a briefing on the progress in implementing General Assembly resolution 64/289 on system-wide coherence this afternoon at the United Nations Head Quarters.
Dr. Chaudhury, in her speech stated that Bangladesh was satisfied with the progress made so far following the establishment of UN-Women. She invited the Executive Director of UN-Women, Michelle Bachelet to visit Bangladesh to see the, “national endeavors towards gender equality and women’s empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.” She assured Bachelet that Bangladesh would give their fullest support.
Deputy Secretary-General, Asha-Rose Migiro, the Executive Director of UN-Women, Michelle Bachelet and the Deputy Executive Director of UNFPA  Mari Simonen also participated while the Director, Development Policy and Analysis Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Robert Vos briefed the delegates on “World Economic Situation and Prospects 2011”. C.D.A of the Mission  Nojibur Rahman also attended the session.
It should be noted that Dr Chaudhury will attend the 8th session of the ‘Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action Monitoring Group’ and the 55th session of the ‘Commission for the Status of Women’ during her stay in New York.
