Final Farewell to George Rodriguez

BY M. S. Sheikh : A Legend brave veteran and Bronx community activist, George Rodriguez final farewell was very touchy and full of respect and sympathy. Because many of whom will never know him personally but whose lives will forever be influenced by his vision, compassion and willingness to serve.

Mr. Rodriguez served United States Air Force and he was a veteran of the Korean War. He returned home to defend his community by fighting against discrimination and for social justice. He helped to establish Bronx legal Services.

He served as president of the Puerto Rican ommunity Development Project (PRCDP) and chairman of New York City Model cities Program-innovative Programs for Low-Income Housing. He spent his career in public service creating scholarship programs for youth, building affordable housing in our communities and working in collaboration with others paying the way for today’s political influence of the Puerto Rican/Latino community. Mr. Rodriguez’s other accomplishments was serving as a Chairman of Community Board 1, Chairman of the Lincoln Medical and Mental Health center’s community Advisory Board and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hunts point Multi Service center. Senator errano inducted George Rodriguez into the New York State Senate Veteran’s Hall of fame last year in Albany as an expression of gratitude and admiration of Rodriguez hard work and dedication. He is gone for his final journey, but his community will remember him for his vision and compassion.
