Embassy of Bangladesh in Copenhagen has observed the Historic ‘Mujibnagar Day’ today with due solemnity. The day began with the hoisting of the National Flag in the morning by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Denmark Muhammad A. Muhith in presence of the officials and staff members of the Embassy. Later, a discussion meeting was organized in the evening at Chancery auditorium which was participated by the members of cross-section of Bangladesh community living in Denmark.

The session started with recitation from the holy Quran followed by reading out of messages from Hon`ble President and the Hon`ble Prime Minister released on this occasion. A documentary on historic Mujibnagar Day was screened. A good number of speakers from the Bangladesh Community in Copenhagen substantially contributed to the lively discussions with their patriotic views and comments. They also focused, among others, on the role of expatriate Bangladeshis to mobilise support for the Mujibnagar Govenment.

Ambassador Muhith in his speech paid homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who proclaimed the independence in the early hours of 26th March 1971 and whose 23 years of arduous struggle and sagacious leadership led the Bangalee nation to achieve an independent Bangladesh. He recalled with deep respect the leadership of the Mujibnagar Government and the three million martyrs and two hundred thousand women who sacrificed their honour that resulted in a secular, progressive and democratic Bangladesh. He highlighted on the significance of this historic day as a groundbreaking event in our struggle for freedom and the role of Mujibnagar Government in harnessing critical support of the international community for the right of self-determination of the Bangalee people and the statehood of Bangladesh as an independent country. Finally, he called upon the expatriate Bangladesh community to lend their hands to realise Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Vision 2021 and Vision 2041. The programme was rounded off with refreshment served by the Embassy.
