Lake Street Council announces new board member

Minneapolis, MN, March 15, The Lake Street Council (LSC) is pleased to announce that Ruhel Islam, owner of Gandhi Mahal Restaurant on 27th Avenue at Lake Street, has been elected to a position on our Board of Directors.Ruhel Islam was elected today during LSC’s 43rd Annual Meeting at Safari Restaurant and Banquet Hall, 3010 4th Avenue South.
Gandhi Mahal has become a successful restaurant and destination location through the hard work of Ruhel Islam and his meticulous attention to the details that bring his customers back.  Ruhel Islam is now looking forward to bringing that same energy and skill to the Lake Street Council Board. His vision and work ethic is expected to complement our board. One of his interests is proactively promoting investment in the Lake Street commercial corridor to sustain and enhance neighborhood, business and entrepreneur assets. Ruhel Islam diligently monitors issues and regularly dialogues with public policy makers. “Ruhel Islam has shown exemplary innovation and community responsibility,” Joyce Wisdom, LSC Executive Director, said. “He is committed to the betterment and economic vitality of Lake Street.”
The guest speaker at this year’s Annual Meeting was Patrick Cardon, CEO of Museum in the Streets™. Cardon described Lake Street’s Museum in the Streets™ project which will kickoff in 2011 with the first of over 60 permanent installations recognizing the history of Lake Street in a self-guided tour.

Lake Street Council staff and board continue to expand the Lake Street Council’s efforts on behalf of the Lake Street business community. Partnerships and support continue to grow. With the leadership of our full board, including newest member Ruhel Islam, we anticipate continued growth and program expansion.
