THE ONLY CITYWIDE SOUTH ASIAN AMERICAN POLITICAL ORGANIZATION MAKES HISTORIC FIRST EVER ENDORSEMENT FOR MAYOR OF NYC

Alliance of South Asian American Labor Endorsed John Liu.

The Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL), the only citywide South Asian organization that makes political endorsements in New York City, has endorsed John Liu’s candidacy for Mayor of New York City.

“John Liu understands the struggle of immigrants and issues affecting South Asian Americans in New York City. He has proven himself as the biggest champion of issues that are important to us through out his entire political career” said Maf Misbah Uddin, Founder and President of ASAAL.

“John Liu has stood up for our most important issues, from fighting back against the NYPD’s surveillance program of the Muslim community, to the elimination of the ‘stop and frisk’ program” said Mohammed Tohin, President of Queens Chapter, ASAAL.

“John Liu has been the most reliable elected official. He has proven his commitment to our community, and we will mobilize at our highest level to show our appreciation for him” said Abu Shakoor, President of Bronx Chapter, ASAAL.

“In a crowded field for Mayor, John Liu stands out from the pack. He is ready to continue to fight for our issues in City Hall” said Ahsanul Haque, President of Brooklyn Chapter, ASAAL.

ASAAL announced its endorsement on ATN Bangla, an international Bangladeshi news channel broadcast globally.

ASAAL was formed in 2008 by labor union leaders of South Asian heritage. ASAAL members are labor union members across all trades in the country. ASAAL was formed to bring the political and organizing lessons learned from the trade unionist movement to the wider South Asian American community in order to increase civic participation in mainstream politics and thus empower the entire community.
