7-day Solo painting exhibition of Shumona Haque inaugurated at Bangladesh Embassy,Washington, D.C

USA NEWS ONLINE : Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA  Akramul Qader 24 August  inaugurated the 7-day solo painting exhibition named “Moner Ronge Nibir Khela”-playing colors  at the Bangabandhu Auditorium  of the Embassy. Popular singer Shumona Hauque known as ‘Jingel Kanya’ also a noted artist who displayed her 34 painting works in the exhibition. A reception was also organized by the Ambassador on this occasion.

Shumona’s first painting exhibition was held in Tokyo, Japan in 2002.

Welcoming noted artist Shumona Haque Ambassador Akramul Qader, in his remarks, thanked distinguished Bangladeshi painter Ms. Haque for coming all the way from Bangladesh aimed at showcasing her artworks to our friends in the USA. Ambassador Qader said, Bangladeshi art has evolved drawing its components from traditional heritage such as archeological relics, folk mythology as well as by internationalizing trend of modern mainstream artworks of the east and the west. He also said Bangladesh’s modern art movement began from what we call the Bengal Renaissance in the pioneering artworks of shilpacharya  Zainal Abedin, Anwarul Haque, Qamrul Hassan, Shafiuddin Ahmed,  Khwaja Shafiq Ahmed, Shahabuddin and Rashid Chowdhury.

Creative medium such as painting transcends geographic boundary and helps bringing together peoples from different culture, Ambassador Qader observed.

This has been part of Bangladesh embassy’s efforts to reach out to the US national by showcasing Bangladesh culture and cuisine. This is the 5^th Solo Painting exhibition and 2^nd by a female artist organized in this Embassy. Dr. Alyssa Ayres, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs and many Bangladeshi expatriates were present on the occasion.

The exhibition will remain open till August 30^th at the Bangabandhu Auditorium from 11.00 am to 5.00 p.m.
