94th Birth Anniversary of Bangabandhu and National Children’s Day celebrated

UsaNewsOnline.com : Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC celebrated the 94th  birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day 17 March in an eventful manner. The elaborate programme included drawing and essay writing competition for the children, a discussion meeting on life and works of Bangabandhu and prayers. Messages from President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister on the said occassion were also read out. Embassy family, a large number children and representaives from the community were present on the occasion.              

At the beginning of the discussion programme, a docummnetary film was presented on life and works of Bangabandhu. After that Muhammad Abdul Muhith Chrage d’Affaires of the Embassy began the discussion proramme with his welcome speech. Mentioning about Bangabandhu’s heartfelt attachments with the children, CDA shed lights on various initiatives Bangabandhu took for the welfare of the children in Bangladesh including enactment of Children’s Act in 1974. He also provided an account of successes Bangladesh has achieved in the recent years for the advancement of children’s rights in Bangladesh. After CDA’s welcome speech, members of the community participated in the discussion and shared their thoughts about Bangabandhu’s role in the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent country.

Mr. Swapan Kumar Saha, Minister (Press) Engineer Mizanur Rahman, President, Bangabandhu Parishad in Washington DC, Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, Mr. Ziauddin Khan, Mr. Nurul Amin Nuru,Mr. Md. Mahmudun Nabi Baki, Mr. Rafique Pervez and Sheikh Selim from the community spoke on the occassion.

The discussion programme was followed by prayers. Representatives from four religious groups recited from holy Quran, Shree Bhagabat Geeta, Holy Bible and and Tripitak. A special munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for the eternal peace of souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members and for the peace and prosperity of the country.

After the prayers, Mrs. Ruby Parveen, wife of CDA distributed prizes among the winners of drawing and essay writing competition. CDA and his wife also cut a cake with the children. The guests were entertained with light dinner.
