Among the visa seekers that America is a Heaven!

Saleh Ayub, On e-mail : Inside the lobby at the American Embassy in Dhaka, there is a general feeling (I myself was not an exception) among the visa seekers that America is a Heaven.

In course of time, during our almost one year continuous stay in the United States, I have figured out that America is not a heaven, it is a country like any other country in the world.

Well, America is a result of good governance, by those elected by the people for the job. Unfortunately though, Bangladesh also has the system of election but the system and the outcome are different from that of the United States.

Here, leaders are chosen to serve the nation in the true sense of the word but it is not so in case of Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, leaders are chosen to serve their self-vested interest as the general people are left with no other choice.

In order to make Bangladesh a prosperous country, the constitution needs to be amended to serve the interest of the nation and not any party or an individual. Whenever any political party comes to power with an overwhelming majority, it changes the constitution to serve the best interest of that party.

This unholy practice should be stopped altogether and the constitution should be amended in the likeness of the US constitution. This amendment will definitely ensure the prosperity of Bangladesh or any other country of the world as the US constitution is a time-tested one. The Daily Star.
