ASAAL endorsed Charles D. Fall for New York State Assembly, a first Muslim from Staten Island
UsaNewsOnline.Com, Staten Island, New York : The Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) Staten Island Chapter endorsed Charles D. Fall for New York State Assembly District 61 in Richmond County, known as Staten Island.
We were so lucky that we have interviewed all the Democratic candidates including Pat Kane and Bobby Digi before the primary election on September 13, 2018. After the screening process was done, the ASAAL screening Committee discussed in details and then voted to select a candidate with an option to stay neutral!
Majority voted to stay neutral due to the fact that it is a Democratic District but two African Americans are running. There is a huge African population especially from Liberia, Nigeria, Gambian, and Senegal. ASAAL has a strong coalition with the African community and didn’t want to create a division in them. However ASAAL decided to allow an individual to work for the candidate of their choice.

That is why ASAAL arranged today’s endorsement meeting with Charles D. Fall as he is now an official candidate. At this event while meeting the Democratic nominee Brother Charles D. Fall, we talked about a Toll free Verrazano-Narrows Bridge for all Staten Island residents, better education for all Staten Islanders and a Real Estate property tax reduction across the City.Brother Charles D. Fall, is a first Muslim to be joined in State Assembly from Staten Island. He said, “I know about ASAAL very well as I know your President Brother Maf Misbah Uddin for a long time since I was involved with Mayor DeBlassio’s 1st Mayoral election and was in charge of the Muslims in New York City under the Community affairs Division of the city of New York. And look, all the issues you brought and are fighting for, I’m very familiar and promise to do all I can when I joined the assembly.”
ASAAL National president Maf misbah Uddin said, “ASAAL Staten Island Chapter – is one of our best – last time they helped the Democratic Party to win the Staten Island DA race, in the last Primary due to their endorsement Matthew Titone won the Primary for Surrogate Court Judgeship despite not getting support the from the Democratic Party of Staten Island. When we endorsed, you win.”
ASAAL National secretary Md. Karim Chowdhury said, “Now by endorsing Charles D. Fall for Assembly, AD 61, ASAAL Staten Island is going to bring all communities together along with the other two candidates Pat Kane and Bobby Digi”.
Staten Island Chapter President Nithia Chatterjee, Ph. D. said, “For us building coalitions is the key to winning. We are here to work with every community for progress! Let’s continue to do that and win big on November 6 for Charles D. Fall and beyond!”
At this meeting Charles D. Fall’s both parents Mr. Aissahou Barry-Fall and Ms. Didier Dialor Fall and was present to greet ASAAL members as their family.
