Bangladesh Consulate in New York Celebrates 95th Birth Anniversary and National Children’s Day
UsaNewsOnline: The Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York celebrated the 95th Birth Anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day on 17 March in a befitting manner. The program included, among others, painting and essay competition for the children, a discussion meeting on the life and works of Bangabandhu and special prayer. Messages of the Honorable President, Honorable Prime Minister and Honorable Foreign Minister were read out.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan, ndc, Consul General of Bangladesh in New York mentioned about the heartfelt attachment of the Father of the Nation for the children. He also shed lights on various initiatives Bangabandhu took for the welfare of the younger generation. He also highlighted on the need for educating the younger generation about the life and works of Bangabandhu.
Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN provided an account of the success Bangladesh has made in the recent years for the advancement of the children in the country.
Mr. Mohamed Mijarul Quayes, Bangladesh Ambassador to Brazil, who also was present at the event, touched on the epic role played by the Father of the Nation. He praised his foreign policy as visionary and farsighted.
Members of the community also shared their thoughts on Bangabandhu’s role in the emergence of the Bangladesh. Officials and their families from the Consulate and the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in New York, a large number of children and representatives of the community were present. Prizes were distributed among the winners.
The guests were entertained with traditional Bangladeshi food.
