[BEN-NY-NJ-CT] BAPA Ex-President ASM Shajahan : BEN feels deep grief at the loss of this guardian of BAPA

UsaNewsOnline.Com Desk : Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN), the global network for protection of environment, expresses its deep sadness at the passing away of ASM Shajahan, former President of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and a sincere friend of BEN. 
Mr. Shajahan played a crucial role during 1999-2000 when the idea of first ICBEN (International Conference on Bangladesh Environment) was launched, discussed and ultimately accepted and implemented. As we know, it is the success of ICBEN of 2000 that led to the formation of BAPA. Mr. Shajahan chaired the sub-committee for General Sessions of ICBEN. At that time, the General Sessions were a novel idea, and Mr. Shajahan left a great legacy by successfully implementing this idea during ICBEN. Later, Mr. Shajahan served as the President of BAPA and contributed to BAPA a lot despite his physical illness.
Mr. Shajahan had an interesting career, rising to the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) and an Adviser to the Caretaker Government. However, he started his career as a teacher and the trait to listen to others, discuss with them, be open to learning, and be willing to help people to learn, remained with him no matter what post he occupied. While working with him as a colleague in the environment movement, sometimes it was difficult to think that this same person was an IGP. He was indeed an exceptional person.
BEN therefore feels deep grief at the loss of this guardian of BAPA. It offers its sincere condolences to all his family members and friends. BEN hopes that all in BAPA and BEN will continue to work vigorously for the environmental ideals to which Mr. Shajahan showed so much dedication. Press Release.
