CONG. MENG COMMENDS U.S. STRATEGY TO SEND COVID-19 VACCINES TO OTHER COUNTRIES; BIDEN ADMINISTRATION LAYS OUT PLAN AFTER THE CONGRESSWOMAN CALLED FOR VACCINE SHARING; NATIONS INCLUDE INDIA, NEPAL, BANGLADESH, PAKISTAN AND SRI LANKA

USANEWSONLINE.COM DESK, QUEENS, NY – U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-Queens) today commended the Biden administration for unveiling the United States’ plan to share COVID-19 vaccines with other nations including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and other countries located in Asia.

Yesterday’s announcement follows Meng’s call for the U.S. to assist these countries with needed vaccine supply to help with the global effort to combat the coronavirus crisis.

The proposed allocation for the first 25 million doses will include approximately 7 million for India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and several other nations in Asia.

The vaccines will be shared through COVAX, the worldwide initiative aimed at equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.

“If we are going to defeat COVID-19 and move past this pandemic, we must fight this virus not just here at home but across the globe, and I applaud President Biden and his administration for proceeding with his commitment to do so,” said Meng. “These donations of vaccines are urgently needed. They will save lives and help with the world’s recovery, and I thank the President and his administration for hearing the pleas that I and others made for sharing vaccines with these other countries.
