Government committed to ensure free and fair trial for war criminals: Ambassador Akramul Qader

USA NEWS: The Government is committed to bring to justice the persons who committed crimes during our war of liberation. The trial will be fair and transparent as per the provisions of Bangladesh Constitution and law enacted in the National Parliament. This was said by Bangladesh Ambassador to USA and State Minister  Akramul Qader while participating in a briefing on the International War Crimes Tribunal in Washington DC on 19 May. The briefing session organized by American Society of International Law featured  Stephen J. Rapp, US Ambassador at large for war crimes issues. Caitlin Reiger of International Center for Transnational Justice (ICTJ) and  John Cammegh, a lawyer also spoke on the occasion. The Bangladesh Ambassador said that the judiciary in Bangladesh is free and have been functioning independently. Ambassador Stephen Rapp briefed the gathering on his visit to Bangladesh and his interactions with the concerned authorities in Dhaka. The briefing session was attended by legal experts, State Department Officials, media representatives and expatriate Bangladesh nationals.
