Minister for Textiles and Jute urges business leaders to explore market for Bangladeshi jute products in USA

UsaNewsOnline : The Consulate General of Bangladesh in New York organized an interactive meeting at the Chancery on 13 November with the presence of Md. Emaz Uddin Pramanik, MP, Minister for Textiles and Jute of Bangladesh. A good number of leading Bangladeshi-American businessmen based in New York attended the event. While giving a historical perspective on the “golden fibre” and its importance on Bangladesh economy, the Minister briefed the business leaders about the policy priority of the present government led by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to expand its market globally. In this connection, the visiting Minister specially urged the US business leaders with Bangladesh origin to explore the market of jute products in USA while underlining the international standard of the Bangladeshi jute products, and bio-degradable nature of its fibre. He added that aggressive marketing strategy for jute products could help make a niche in the US market if the local buyers could be effectively sensitized about its  potential role in reducing emissions.

The meeting generated huge interest among the participating business leaders and a lively Q&A session followed the meeting. Sabina Akhtar Tuhin, Member of Parliament and Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Textiles and Jute, Dr. A K Abdul Momen, Bangladesh Permanent Representative and Ambassador to UN also spoke on the occasion. Members of the delegation which included senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Prime Minister’s Office, BJMC, among others, were present. Md. Shameem Ahsan, ndc moderated the meeting. The Minister also visited the Consulate and interacted with the Mission officials on 12 November. The guests were served with traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.

Minister for Textiles and Jute is currently leading  a 7-member delegation to USA  after UK as a second leg of his 2-nation tour as a part of government  strategy to expand market for  jute and jute products.
