ZEPHYR TEACHOUT ENDORSES ALI NAJMI FOR CITY COUNCIL

Queens, NY –Jun 16, Zephyr Teachout, progressive reformer and Democratic candidate for Governor in 2014, endorsed Ali Najmi, attorney and community organizer, for the New York City Council, District 23, representing Eastern Queens.

Born and raised in Queens, Ali Najmi is a successful criminal defense and civil rights attorney. Ali served as Legislative Director for New York City Council Member Mark Weprin, where he worked on important civil rights legislation.  He is past president of the Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Club. Ali is known for his unique ability to bring communities together to advocate for change. He was a key organizer for the Obama campaign in 2008 and 2012 and is an active member of the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL) and the NAACP.

Zephyr Teachout is an organizer, educator, and scholar. She is a constitutional and property law professor at Fordham Law School. She is a deeply experienced leader in the fights for economic and political equality and against concentration of wealth and control in the hands of the few. Her arguments were cited in the Citizens United case by Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. She is one of the leading legal experts on corruption.
