ASAAL Queens Chapter New Executive Committee : President Monirul Islam, Secretary Syed Bukhari
UsaNewsOnline Desk, New York : The Queens Chapter General Membership met on January 22, February 26, and March 26, 2017 at 165-23 Hillside Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11432 presided by Chapter President Showkat Khan and conducted by Md. Shabul Uddin, Executive Director of the Queens Chapter. According to the sign-in sheet a total of 31 members in January, 33 members in February, and 25 members in March were present respectively.
At these meetings it was decided that, based on the constitution and presentation made by the Central Secretary Md. Karim Chowdhury, the Queens Chapter will prepare our membership to reform the Queens Chapter Executive Committee as currently most members can’t give time to volunteer for the community and therefore are not producing any results.
As such it was stated by referring to the constitution to conclude that everyone will renew their membership by paying $20 yearly dues and those who are interested to join the committee will pay two years of membership dues.
Finally on May 14, 2017 at the Chapter meeting after consulting with members who were present at the last three meetings an Executive Committee was proposed to the Chapter for discussion. Mr. Showkat Khan got upset and got boisterous and started verbal abuse for not seeing his name as President in the proposed Committee. At this meeting 39 members were present and everyone tried to cool him down!
Our National President Maf Misbah Uddin, who is a Queens Chapter member, assured him that, “this is only a proposal, and you can run,for any position and if there is more than one candidate, according to the constitution, there will be an election for that position.” He started taking pictures of all the sign-in sheets and members who were present and left the meeting room abruptly!
Thereafter Mr. Khan started abusing ASAAL and its leaders especially National President Maf Misbah Uddin and National Secretary Md. Karim Chowdhury through Facebook postings and sending Text messages to ASAAL members in all Chapters and to National Leaders as well!
We offered him to sit and talk to us after deleting the Facebook postings but he never agreed, rather he started to send threatening messages through Facebook by using Federal, State, and City Logos of investigating agencies! Mr. Khan’s attack continued on Sunday. He inboxed to Facebook an article written to the Weekly newspaper Jonotar Kantho by him with lies, distortions, and contortions related to ASAAL. Clearly his goal is to destroy the reputation of ASAAL.
We, at ASAAL, consider Mr. Khan’s behavior to be malicious and disgraceful and hurtful to the South Asian community in general and to ASAAL in particular.
Seeing no other alternative the Queens Chapter Committee called an emergency meeting on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 6:30 pm and met at 165-23 Hillside Avenue, Jamaica, NY 11432. The meeting was presided by the 1st Executive Vice President Monirul Islam and discussed the problems ASAAL is facing due to the selfish behavior of Khan Showkat! After a long discussion it was decided that Mr. Khan’s behavior is too detrimental for the ASAAL organization and as such should not consider to wait any further in accepting the proposed Queens Chapter Executive Committee as final since no other member has shown their intention to compete for any of the positions proposed.
Accordingly the following Queens Chapter Executive Committee was approved for the year 2017-2018:
