ASAAL Staten Island Chapter meeting

UsaNewsOnline.Com, New York : ASAAL Staten Island Chapter met on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Al Humza Restaurant, 629 Richmond Road, Staten Island, NY 10304.

The meeting was presided by Phamacist Irshad Sheikh, Executive Vice President of the Staten Island Chapter and conducted by Secretary Muhammad Karim Chowdhury who is also the National Secretary of ASAAL. 

At this meeting ASAAL Staten Island Chapter gathered representative from different community groups such as  Nigerian, Senegalese, Liberians, and Sikhs were joined ASAAL community. National President Maf Misbah Uddin and National Corresponding Secretary Jed Matalon were in attendance. Also attended Chapter political director Prof. Lalith Rajakaruna, Vice Presidents Mohammed Younus of Local 100, Kabir Abedin of Local 1182, AKM Mohib Ullah and Jeeva Kumar of Local 272, Reginald Rajakaruna of Local 1407, Reuben Adeshuko of Local 371, Women’s Committee members Perveen Karim and Khorsheda Akter, Ahmad Fall, and many more. 

Invited guests are Democratic Congressional candidate Max Rose, Surrogate Judge candidate Matt Titone who is currently serving as an Assemblyman since 2007. Also present are the three democratic candidates seeking to be the candidate for Assembly District 61. They are Bobby Digi Olisa, Charles Falls represented by his father Didier Falls, and Patricia Kane who is also the Secretary-Treasurer of New York Stare Nurses Association. 

It was not a screening committee meeting but a meet and greet event. All candidates spoke to the audience and ASAAL and community leaders ask questions importance to them!

The topics discussed included how these politician can help to win big in the Midterm election while discussing issues faced by our community. Staten Island is in Richmond County of the City of New York where there is no public hospital, Staten Islanders pay taxes, and we demand Public Hospital! Why we pay tolls when other boroughs has options not to pay, we demand fairness we want equal treatment!

At 9:30 pm meeting ended with all having a dinner and a closing remarks by the National President Maf Misbah Uddin, who said, “we minorities may have come from different countries by boat, by ship, or by plane but today we all are in the same boat”, “our problems are many – solutions are few, politicians are not paying attention to us! It must change we must register and vote”, Mr. Uddin added!
