Bangabandhu’s Birth Anniversary celebrated in Nigeria with festivity & love
UsaNewsOnline.Com Desk : 100th Birth Anniversary of the greatest Bangalee of all time Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was celebrated with festivity and love at the Bangladesh High Commission, Abuja, Nigeria.
The celebratory programme started at 10 am on 17 March 2020 with the hoisting of national flag at the Chancery by the High Commissioner in presence of the officials of the Mission. The messages from President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out, followed by a special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu, his martyred family members and martyrs of the War of Liberation.

The officials of the Mission visited City of Refuge Orphanage in Abuja to mark the National Children’s Day. They made brief remarks on the love and affection of the Father of the Nation for children before the orphans and the officials of the facility. Later, they handed over some food items and gifts to the Administrator of the City of Refuge Orphanage which was appreciated by all.
In the evening, a discussion meeting took place at the auditorium of the High Commission. Other activities included placing of floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu by the High Commissioner, accompanied by his wife Mrs. Pandora Chowdhury, officials and members of the community, screening of documentary, cutting cake, releasing of balloons, distribution of ‘Mujib Graphics Novel’ book among the children and visiting ‘‘Bangabandhu Corner’’.

During the discussion meeting, Mr. Md. Shameem Ahsan, High Commissioner paid glowing tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for his great contribution for the independence of Bangladesh. While terming ‘Bangladesh and Bangabandhu as identical’, the High Commissioner added that Bangabandhu’s ideals will act as eternal source of inspiration for the whole nation. Mr. Ahsan mentioned about the unflinching love and affection of the Father of the Nation for the children. He added that compassion that was evident in the character of Bangabandhu during his childhood shaped the fundamental trait of his political philosophy of later life and that was “love for the people”. The High Commissioner further shed light on various initiatives taken by Bangabandhu and also by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the welfare of the children. Mr. Ahsan also highlighted on the need for educating the children about the life and works of Bangabandhu. While outlining the year-long programmes undertaken by the Mission to celebrate the birth centenary, he urged Bangladesh expatriates to work together to build ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu. Md. Nurul Anwar, Brigadier General and Mr. Bidosh Chandra Barman, First Secretary also spoke on the occasion moderated by Mr. Mohammad Shah Ekramul Hoque, Head of Chancery of the Mission. Members of the community also shared their thoughts on Bangabandhu’s role in the emergence and reconstruction of Bangladesh.

The auditorium assumed a festive look which was beautifully decorated with Bangabandhu’s portraits, banner, posters, balloons, colourful paper-made chains and other glittering materials. The guests appreciated the recently-launched ‘‘Bangabandhu Corner’’ of the Mission, equipped with historic pictures and publications,which will enlighten the visitors and interested readers about the philosophy, ideology, sacrifice, and the struggles of the Father of the Nation.

The guests were served with traditional Bangladeshi cuisine. The programme was attended by officials of the Mission, members of Bangladesh community along with their families. Press Release.
