Bangladesh Government is committed to establish women’s rights in the country

UsaNewsOnline.Com, New York : Government of Bangladesh has made all out efforts to establish gender equality in the country, says Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs at a seminar on “ Breaking the Cycle of Violence against Girls and Boys: The Role of Parliamentarians,”  organized by the Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU)  on the side lines of the  sixty-first session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). She briefed the audience about the legislative measures the Government has put in place to protect the women and children from violence. She also highlighted the commitment of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to empower women at all levels of the governance.

Dr. Dipu Moni, MP is leading the Bangladesh Parliamentary delegation to the IPU events. Abdul Latif, MP and Saira Mohsin, MP are the other members of the delegation.

The delegation also attended sessions on “Rising Extremism, Macro-Economic Policies, and the Relevance of Gendered Analysis”, “Equality in politics: another 50 years to reach 50-50? “, “Gender Equality in Nationality Laws”, and “Violence against women in politics: Name it, investigate it, eliminate it “. All the sessions were organized by the IPU in collaboration with UN. The delegation underscored the role of parliaments in empowering women in society and emphasized that promoting and protecting women would contribute to social and economic progress of a country.

Besides these, in the evening, Dr. Dipu Moni, MP attended a meeting organized by US Bangladesh Awami League at Jackson Heights in the City. In this meeting, she enumerated the measures taken by the present government to ensure the wellbeing of the expatriate Bangladeshi citizens.

The delegation also attended the IPU event on “Empowering parliaments to empower women: Making the economy work for women” held on 17 March 2017.

CSW is taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It started on 13 March and will finish on 24 March 2017. Representatives of Member States of the UN, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are attending the session.
