Bangladesh has been elected as the Vice President of the 71 Session of United Nations General Assembly

UsaNewsOnline.Com, New York, 13 June 2016 : Today, at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Bangladesh has been elected unanimously as the Vice President of the upcoming 71 Session of the United Nations General Assembly ( UNGA). There are 15 other countries from different regional groups  elected as Vice Presidents. As per rules, all the P-5 countries of United Nations Security Council are also the Vice Presidents of the UNGA session. Earlier, the candidature of Bangladesh for the position of Vice President of 71 session of UNGA was endorsed by the Asia-Pacific Group ( APG). The term of 71 session will begin in September at the commencement of the 71st General Assembly session.

Today, the United Nations General Assembly also elected Peter Thomson, Permanent Representative of Fiji, as President of its upcoming 71st session. Mr. Thomson, who will replace current General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft from Denmark. Mr. Thomson, got elected, defeating Mr. Andreas D. Mavroyiannis from Cyprus through voting conducted by secret ballot.
