Earth Day greetings from BEN-NY-NJ-CT : “Environmental and Climate Literacy.”

UsaNewsOnline.Com Desk, New York : Bangladesh Environment Network (BEN), the global network for protection of Bangladesh and global environment, sends it greetings to all on the occasion of the Earth Day 2017. The theme of this year’s Earth Day is “Environmental and Climate Literacy.” Needless to say, this is a very appropriate theme. World community reached the Paris Agreement regarding climate change in 2015. Some progress was made since then in dealing with the climate issue. However, recent political changes are threatening that progress. Particularly, the Trump administration is panning to take the USA out of the Paris Agreement. This is very ominous, because climate initiatives are needed now more than ever. Very recently, scientists have identified a huge new crack in the Petermann Glacier, a large ice shelf in northern Greenland. NASA images show the rift has opened up at the center of the floating ice shelf and soon it could break off into a large iceberg and float away. As is known, the melting of the Greenland and polar ice sheets can tip the climate change process over the catastrophe line. Therefore we need environmental and climate literacy. BEN urges all to take initiatives in this regard. Charity begins at home. One may ensure that all in the family, particularly the children have this literacy. Also, everyone needs to translate the literacy into action. For example, the People’s Climate March will be held on April 29 (next Saturday) in Washington DC.
