Here’s What Will Be Closed in NYC During the Snowstorm

By  Julia Bottles,  Nicole Levy,  Rachel Holliday Smith and Shaye Weaver : Schools aren’t the only things closed for the blizzard Tuesday — as New York City agencies, museums and libraries are also getting a snow day.

With a possible 16 inches of snow expected to fall during Tuesday’s storm and wind gusts up to 40 mph, some institutions around the New York area have announced they’re suspending operations for the day. 

Here’s a look at what will be closed Tuesday due to the snow:

► CITY AGENCIES

• Alternate side parking has been suspended Tuesday and Wednesday due to snow removal operations. Meters will remain in effect.

• All courts in New York City will be closed.

► SCHOOLS AND CHILDCARE

• New York City public schools will be closed, as will after-school programs. 

• All schools run by the Diocese of Brooklyn will be closed.

• The Harlem School of Arts is canceling all classes, private lessons and activities on Tuesday. 

► PARKS AND RECREATION

• Asphalt Green has canceled its programs, but its pool and fitness centers in Manhattan will remain open.

• The Brooklyn Botanic Garden will be closed Tuesday.

• Central Park‘s visitor centers will be closed and volunteer activities canceled on Tuesday.

► ZOOS

• The Queens Zoo will be closed Tuesday.

• The Bronx Zoo will be closed and all Wildlife Conservation Society field trips are canceled.

• The Central Park Zoo will be closed.

• The Prospect Park Zoo will be closed Tuesday.

► LIBRARIES

• All branches of the New York Public Library will be closed Tuesday. They are expected to reopen Wednesday. 

• All branches of the Brooklyn Public Library will be closed. 

• The Queens Library is keeping all its locations closed Tuesday and extending return dates for checked-out materials due that day.

• All IDNYC enrollment centers at library branches will be closed Tuesday. You can find out which other individual enrollment centers are staying closed here.  

► MUSEUMS

• The Statue of Liberty National Monument and the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration are closed. 

• The MAD Museum, or the Museum of Arts and Design, will be closed. 

• The Museum of American Finance will keep its doors shut. 

• Both Staten Island Museum locations will be closed. 

• The New York Hall of Science is closed.

• The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian will be closed. It’s expected to reopen for its normal hours on Wednesday.

• The Metropolitan Museum‘s three locations (The Met Fifth Avenue, The Met Breuer and the Cloisters) are closed.

• The Jewish Museum is closed.

• The Guggenheim Museum and its store is closed.

► CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS

• Historic Richmond Town on Staten Island will be closed.

• The 92nd Street Y is closed as well as its programs, rentals, classes and events are canceled.

• All shows at the Upper West Side’s Symphony Space have been postponed. The venue’s box office with be in touch with ticket holders to provide more information. dnainfo.com/new-york
