Students of Neval Thomas Elementary School gain new appreciation about Bangladesh

USANEWS: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington, DC in collaboration with the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area and the Embassy Concert Series in DC hosted 50 students and 4 teachers of Neval Thomas Elementary School on 15 December.
Following a power-point presentation on Bangladesh’s rich history & culture and its impressive achievements, the students also interacted with  Akramul Qader, Bangladesh Ambassador to USA and State Minister. The enthusiastic students, who are 4th and 5th graders, posed questions to the Ambassador on Bangladesh, diplomacy, role of Ambassadors, his social life etc. Ambassador Qader expressed his satisfaction for the keen interest of the young, inquisitive students and hoped that they would carry home a positive image of Bangladesh.

To sensitize the young learners about challenges arising from global warming, Dr. Craig Starger of Columbia Universitymade a digital presentation on “Climate Change and Bangladesh” .
The cultural program was directed by Dhroopad, a premiere cultural organization of the Bangladesh diaspora in the greater Washington area. Hiron Chowdhury, who directed the cultural segment, introduced traditional musical instruments to them., He was assisted by Shadok Chakraborty in Tabla. Piyal enthralled the students by her dances to the extent that the students joined her to learn the art. The students also learnt about the classical and contemporary Bangladeshi dances and were delighted to attend such an event at an Embassy which was a maiden experience for many of them.
The event is a part of the Embassy’s public diplomacy and outreach program to project Bangladesh’s rich culture and tradition to wider audience in the USA. The participants were served with traditional Bangladeshi refreshments.
