World Humanitarian day

International traumatic impact on families and refugee communities on Syrian, Rohingya/Burmese, and Afghan refugees, stateless & displaced people, but also including a range of related humanitarian concerns facing the international community at this time.

Today on the World Humanitarian day, to express my support and solidarity to the Rohingya people, the world’s most persecuted people documented by the United Nations. Based on my keen interest in the humanitarian and human rights field, I have joined the World Rohingya Organization to help the stateless Rohingya people. Rohingyas are bonafide citizens of Burma, they have been living in Arakan from as native of Arakan from generation to generation.

After the independent of Burma since 1948, all the parliamentary democratic governments of Burma treated the Rohingya people as an ethnic minority of the  Union of Myanmar. However, after 1962 military coup by General Ne Win, the situation changed.

In 1982 ,an anti-Rohingya Myanmar Citizenship law was approved and the Rohingyas have been declared as stateless people branding them foreigners who entered from Bangladesh (former east Pakistan) during and after British colonial time. In collaboration with local Mogh Rakhine Buddhist, the previous quasi-civilian government carried out massacre and extermination campaign in 1978 and 1992 resulting refugee exodus to Bangladesh.

The Massacre in 2012 again made the condition of the Rohingyas very miserable and thousand of Rohingyas were compelled to flee to Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia risking their lives by wooden boats as Bangladesh closed the border for Rohingya refugees.

Now 140 thousand Rohingyas live in Concentration camps in Sittwe since 2012 as sub-human. They are denied of citizenship, freedom of movement, fundamental human rights and even restricted to marriage and Child birth.

We expected when Burma will become a democratic government through 2015 general election, unfortunately, there was a dn election in which no Rohingyas were allowed to vote, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi led NLD Party won and formed a democratic government with a civilian President U Htin Kyaw.

To our utmost surprise, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who became state controller and Foreign Minister who claims to be above the President, did not relax any kinds of restriction imposed on Rohingyas by previous Military  Government.

The situation of Rohingyas did not change at all. Moreover, the NLD Daw Aung San Suu Kyi Government is trying to wipe out the identity of the Rohingyas. It is the moral responsibility of the international community to help the Rohingyas from state sponsored genocide.

I urge the United Nations and United Nations Security Council to hold an emergency meeting for discussion of the Rohingyas and to send an investigation team to Myanmar to monitor the situation of the Rohingyas. The United Nation must take immediate step to mitigate the suffering of the Rohingyas and prevent further mass killing.

In case of failure to protect the Rohingyas by the Myanmar Government, the world community and UNSC must adopt the Global principal R 2 P Responsibility to Protect and UN must create a safe zone for Rohingyas in Arakan, Burma.
